It was co-founded in 2020 by Dr Willie Visser (MBChB, MFamMed, MMed (Derm), Head of Dermatology at Stellenbosch University, not to replace traditional practice, but to offer a safe and secure platform to improve access to dermatology for all South Africans, no matter your location or situation.

How does Dr Derma work?

Search by region to find a dermatologist near you.

3. Start your consultation

It takes about 10 minutes to complete the online questionnaire.

Your information

Try to be as detailed as possible when you describe your skin, hair or nail concern, the more information your dermatologist has about your condition, the quicker you’ll get your feedback and a treatment plan.

The photos

Try to capture a clear image of your concern, a steady photo in natural light is usually best and will assist your dermatologist.  

Once you’ve completed your consultation questionnaire and made payment, a patient file will be created, and you’ll be in your dermatologist’s online waiting room. 

Although most of our dermatologists will review your file within a day or two, please allow for 3 to 5 working days before you receive feedback.

If the detail in your file is sufficient, your dermatologist will complete the diagnosis. However, they may have follow up questions, or may request more information. Look out for an SMS message from Dr Derma to let you know to either answer a few follow-up questions or to review your diagnosis. Your dermatologist may send you a script to purchase your products from VitaGene.

How to purchase your prescription from your dermatologist on VitaGene

  1. Look out for an email from VitaGene to 'Activate your account'. Check your spam if this is not received.
  2. Once your account is activated, you'll receive a confirmation email from VitaGene. This is not your script.
  3. Your third email is from VitaScript and this will have a link to purchase the products that your dermatologist has prescribed for you.
  4. Click the 'purchase your prescription' link and you will be taken to a checkout page to confirm delivery details and process payment.
