Berberine is a plant alkaloid with a long history of medicinal use. The known clinical applications are diverse ranging from metabolic syndrome all the way to generalised inflammatory disorders. However, like many natural compounds, unlocking the full potential of berberine’s health benefits has always posed challenges, from poor oral bioavailability to high-dose intolerance causing unwanted gastrointestinal side effects.

What makes the Berbevis™ in Medford’s Berberine superior?
Berberine has low solubility in the gastrointestinal system and low ability to permeate the gut wall, with less than 5 % being absorbed from the gut.

Berbevis™ is a next generation berberine phytosome, using raw food-grade Berberis aristata extract instead of pure berberine, because it is more soluble than pure berberine – in fact, 2.5 times more.

The use of pea protein as a carrier also assists in optimising berberine absorption.
