Sulforaphane is a natural plant compound derived from many cruciferous vegetables, including cabbage, cauliflower, kale, broccoli and broccoli sprouts (by far the highest source).

This disease-fighting phytochemical enhances the body's natural detoxification process, thereby protecting you from environmental threats in the air you breathe, the food you eat and the water you drink every day. You are constantly being exposed to a barrage of chemicals that don’t belong inside your body – and these chemicals can take a toll on your overall health and wellness if they are not processed properly.

The body’s natural detoxification system operates in two phases:

  • Phase I: When chemicals enter your body, certain detoxifying enzymes break them down them into metabolites, which may still be potentially harmful. An easy way to imagine these metabolites is a broken piece of glass with “rough edges”. If these “edges” aren’t processed further, they can interfere with normal cell function by damaging cellular DNA, proteins and lipids.
  • Phase II: Additional detoxifying enzymes process the potentially harmful metabolites into water-soluble compounds, which can be excreted from the body easily.

Sulforaphane helps increase the production of important detoxifying enzymes in Phase II, thereby supporting the elimination of potentially harmful metabolites. Research has shown that this compound also enhances the body’s defences against oxidative stress and cell damage.

This ability to produce high levels of sulforaphane when ingested is what makes Bio-Sulforaphane Advanced®capable of reducing inflammation, enhancing detoxification and stimulating the body’s antioxidant defenses at a cellular level.

Why supplement sulforaphane?

Since sulforaphane is associated with cruciferous vegetables, many people think they can get all the benefits of this miraculous compound simply by eating their vegetables. Unfortunately it isn’t that simple, as sulforaphane itself isn’t found in broccoli. Rather, it’s the essential ingredients glucoraphanin and myrosinase that are present in the plant – and, depending on seed quality, soil composition, plant age and other factors, these compounds may not be present in high enough quantities to allow for adequate sulforaphane production. Cooking broccoli also typically destroys the myrosinase enzyme, thereby limiting the production of sulforaphane.


Adults and children over 12 years take 1-2 capsules per day on an empty stomach, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Do not exceed recommended dose.

Very occasionally, gastro-intestinal adverse effects have been reported, including nausea, gastro-abdominal discomfort and diarrhoea. Limited available data seems to indicate that such effects are limited to certain pre-existing gastro-intestinal conditions, in particular those with dysbiosis. However, it has been observed that for those affected, the dose can be managed in a manner whereby the symptoms disappear and may not recur even after the consumption of larger doses. Keep out of reach of children.
