Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disorder characterized by a dry mouth (xerostomia) and dry eye (keratoconjunctivitis sicca) – both representing the two primary clinical features of this disorder. This condition may be associated with an underlying autoimmune connective tissue disorder such as rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus or scleroderma.
